For Myke Towers, being an “Island Boy” means being ready for anything, at any time, while also being prepared to party.
As he was literally counting the days with great excitement for the release of his new album, Island Boyz, in the vibrant heart of Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, Myke Towers brought Billboard to the origins of his musical journey. With a stunning view of the impressive Castillo San Cristóbal as a backdrop in the restaurant Mar y Rosa, he shared the essence of the sound of his new album, which is deeply rooted in the rich cultural landscape of the island. The fort’s majestic presence not only symbolizes the Caribbean flavors of Puerto Rican heritage, but also serves as a reminder of the influences that have shaped Towers’ unique artistry.
From “Soleao,” his collaboration with Quevedo — which also reached No. 4 on Billboard’s Latin Pop Airplay and Latin Rhythm Airplay charts, and No. 19 on Latin Airplay — to tracks such as “No Hay Break” featuring Omah Lay, he infuses Afrobeats elements. In contrast, “No Quiere Flores,” a collaboration with Gabito Ballesteros, features reggaeton with heavy thumping beats. He also expresses his love for corridos and Regional Mexican music. The 23 tracks blend reggaetón, dancehall, dembow, Latin R&B and Afrobeats. This new body of work reaffirms his command over a global urban sound and offers a deeper look into an artist in full reinvention.
The project also introduces a rich variety of musical influences, seamlessly blended to create a cohesive listening experience. Together, these songs reflect Towers’ diverse inspirations and unwavering commitment to authenticity, making Island Boyz a compelling contribution to the contemporary music landscape that provides a new life soundtrack for the summer, departing straight from Puerto Rico.
“I say that it happened, that little by little, I was discovering myself more and more. … Someone close to me told me, ‘Don’t take it the wrong way, but your best song, you haven’t even recorded it yet.’ I was like, ‘What do you mean?’ I didn’t understand him,” he shares with Billboard. “Then he told me that I am at a level where better things will keep coming out, I have to keep going until. Wow, I take that very seriously! It’s not that I know it all, it’s through experience in the studio that one develops.”
Myke says he continues to improve his technique to maintain the characteristic flow and catchy bars that are part of the chorus of his songs.
The list of collaborators — Quevedo, De La Ghetto, Gabito Ballesteros, Manuel Turizo, Omah Lay, Ludmilla, DFZM and Izaak — comes not from rigid formulas, but from a deep sense of artistic kinship that enhances the album’s vision.

Myke Towers is confirmed for the 2025 Billboard Latin Music Week, taking place from Oct. 20 to 24 at the historic Fillmore Miami Beach. Spanning over 30 years and recognized as the most influential week in Latin music, the event will once again celebrate the heartbeat of Latin music and culture with four days of panels, marquee conversations, roundtables, showcases, networking, and activations.
